Jaw muscle massage

Problems and pain related to the jaw are very common. These issues are not always noticed, or they are not recognized as being related to the jaw. There are many triggering factors for symptoms and discomfort caused by overworked jaw muscles, such as stress, teeth grinding, clenching of the teeth, trauma, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction, all of which can strain the jaw and lead to symptoms.

Jaw muscle treatments

The most common symptoms include migraine or headache, teeth grinding, neck and shoulder muscle tension especially in the back of the head area, numbness or tingling in the face, stiffness or clicking in the jaw joints, tinnitus or ear pain, a sensation of a lump in the throat, and speech difficulties or slurred speech. Pelvic floor issues may also sometimes be reflected as problems in the jaw system.

Jaw muscle massage relieves and reduces muscle tension in the head, face, neck, and shoulder area. The treatment involves working on the chewing muscles from both inside and outside the mouth, as well as the facial and head area, neck and shoulder region, and chest muscles, always in accordance with the client’s sensations. Classical massage techniques are used in the treatment, as well as mobilization when necessary.

As a client, you will also receive self-care instructions and guidance for maintaining the health of the jaw system. Jaw muscle treatment also helps identify broader temporomandibular dysfunctions and any potential need for jaw physiotherapy.
