What is the difference between a massage and a sports massage?

Massage can be divided into several different categories, all of which are based on classical massage techniques and their variations. A massage may include techniques such as stroking and friction.

Sports massage is a form of classical massage that also uses more targeted techniques, for example to treat muscle origins and insertions or scar tissue. The massage therapist may also stretch muscles or relieve pain using techniques such as trigger point therapy.

Sports massage usually focuses on a specific issue, such as a headache, pain, muscle tightness or numbness, whereas a regular massage may focus more on relaxation.

Sports massage is sometimes assumed to involve more pressure than regular massage, but this is not necessarily the case. The intensity of the treatment is always adjusted according to the client’s preferences and needs. At SUHK, the treatment is tailored to you.

Can you get a sports massage even if you’re not an athlete?

Sports massage is usually performed to address an existing issue. Age or athletic background does not matter. Sports massage is suitable for everyone.

When should I choose Kipuasema/Pain clinic?

The SUHK Kipuasema/Pain clinic makes it easier to book an appointment when you are experiencing pain but are unsure which professional or service to choose.

Pain can take many different forms and have many causes. It may be acute or chronic, caused by an injury or overuse, and feel aching, sharp, severe or mild. You may experience pain in your knee while running, in your back after sitting for a long time or in your neck in the morning. The pain may begin suddenly or gradually become worse. It may occur at rest or only during a particular movement.

When booking through the SUHK Kipuasema, you do not need to know what is causing your pain. Our professionals have extensive knowledge of pain and the function of different areas of the body.

You only need to select the area of your body that hurts on the SUHK Kipuasema page. You can then choose a suitable professional, location or appointment time.

Why is a personal identity number asked during the visit?

We ask all clients for their Finnish personal identity code so that they can be reliably identified in our patient information system and the required treatment records can be entered appropriately in the Kanta Services.

Personal data is handled confidentially and in accordance with applicable data protection legislation.

What is the Kanta fee and why is it charged to new clients?

Registering a new client in the Kanta system creates costs for SUHK. We therefore charge new clients a one-time Kanta fee of €3 to cover these costs. We also ask for the client’s Finnish personal identity code during their first visit.

If you are a new client and have received a massage as a gift with a gift card valid for a specific service, the Kanta fee will not be charged separately.

What payment methods are accepted on site?

At our locations, you can pay using all major payment cards except American Express. Massage services can also be paid for using Edenred and Epassi wellbeing or massage benefits and balances. Physiotherapy and osteopathy appointments can be paid for using the Epassi or Edenred Health Benefit. Your employer can confirm which services are included in your employee benefit.

Our gift cards can be used with professionals who provide the service specified on the card or according to the monetary value stated on the card.

Several payment methods may be combined when paying at an SUHK location. For example, you can pay part of the price by card and the remainder using an employer-provided benefit and a gift card.

Payment for a booked appointment is always made at the SUHK location. You do not need to pay when booking your appointment.

Are gift cards accepted at all locations?

Yes. A gift card purchased from any SUHK location or from our online store can be used at all our locations and with any professional who provides the relevant service. You can find the contact information for our locations here.

How is a SUHK gift card used?

Bring the gift card or its code with you to your first appointment. You do not need to enter the gift card details when booking an appointment. A gift card can be used to pay for the service specified on the card. A standard gift card issued for a monetary amount can be used for any SUHK service. The full value of a monetary gift card does not need to be used during a single visit. During your first visit, the gift card will be registered to your client account for future use.

A regular gift card may also be shared with a family member. In this case, the gift card can be registered to more than one client account. A gift card or multi-visit card purchased using an employer-provided benefit is personal. It may only be used by the person who received the benefit and only for a service permitted under the terms of that benefit.

Regular-price gift cards and multi-visit cards purchased from the online store are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. Promotional and campaign products have a shorter validity period. The validity period is stated on the product page and on the gift card or multi-visit card.

For questions concerning the use or validity of a gift card, please email and include the gift card details in your message.

How is a gift card purchased from the online store delivered?

Gift cards purchased from the online store are sent to the email address provided by the person placing the order. The gift card is delivered as a PDF attachment. It can be forwarded to the recipient either electronically or as a printed copy.

Please note that the gift card email may be filtered into your spam, promotions or junk folder. If you have not received the email containing your gift card after placing the order, please check these folders.

Can gift cards be purchased on site?

Yes. Gift cards and multi-visit cards are available for purchase at our locations. You can purchase one during your appointment and take it with you.

Please note that our extended opening hours apply to pre-booked appointments. Our reception desks are not continuously staffed, so we cannot guarantee that someone will be available solely for gift card sales without a booked appointment.

What payment methods can be used in the online store?

In our online store, you can pay through all Finnish online banks and using Visa, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, Mastercard and Debit Mastercard cards. Available mobile payment methods include MobilePay and Siirto. Invoice and instalment payment methods include OP Lasku, OP Tililuotto and Walley. Apple Pay and Google Pay are also accepted in the online store.

Several payment methods cannot be combined for the same online store order. At an SUHK location, however, a payment may be divided between several payment methods.

An SUHK gift card cannot be used as a payment method in the online store.

You can use the Epassi Massage Benefit to purchase gift cards and multi-visit cards for massage services from the online store for your own personal use. You can use the Epassi Health Benefit to purchase gift cards and multi-visit cards for physiotherapy and osteopathy services from the online store for your own personal use. The Health Benefit may also be used to pay directly for physiotherapy and osteopathy services at an SUHK location, provided that the service is included in the benefit offered by your employer. Sports and culture benefits cannot be used to pay for massage, physiotherapy or osteopathy services.

Edenred cannot currently be used as a payment method in the SUHK online store. It can, however, be used as a payment method at an SUHK location at the time of your visit.

Can massages be paid with Edenred?

The Edenred Massage Benefit can be used to pay for massage services at all SUHK locations. It can also be used to purchase a gift card or multi-visit card for massage services from one of our locations for your own personal use. Physiotherapy and osteopathy services can be paid for using the Edenred Health Benefit. The Edenred exercise benefit is intended to support an employee’s own active exercise. Massage and physiotherapy are not considered active exercise and cannot therefore be paid for using the exercise benefit.

More information is available on the Edenred website.  https://edenred.fi/fi/edunsaaja/hierontaetu/

Can Epassi be used for massage?

The Epassi Wellness and Flex benefits can be used to pay for massage, osteopathy and physiotherapy services, provided that your employer has included the relevant services in your employee benefit. The Epassi Massage Benefit can be used for massage services, while the Epassi Health Benefit can be used for physiotherapy and osteopathy services. These benefits can also be used to purchase gift cards and multi-visit cards for your own personal use from our locations and online store. The Epassi Sport & Culture Benefit can be used for exercise and cultural services. Sports and culture benefits cannot be used to pay for massage or other services provided by SUHK.

More information is available on the Epassi website. https://www.epassi.fi/fi/tyonantajalle/artikkelit/epassi-hyvinvointi-hierontaetu

Can employer benefits also be used to pay for physiotherapy or osteopathy?

The services that can be paid for depend on the benefit selected by your employer.
