Classic massage
What is classic massage?
Massage can be divided into several different types, and all of them are based on the techniques of classic massage and their variations. Different massage techniques are used during the treatment, such as stroking and friction movements. The pressure used in classic massage is not fixed, but is always adjusted according to the client’s preferences. The same applies to other forms of massage as well, such as sports massage offered by SUHK.

Our massages are provided only by qualified massage therapists
All of our massage therapists are also trained in sports massage. Despite the name, this type of massage is suitable for everyone and offers benefits beyond traditional classic massage. In addition, some of our therapists have specialized training in jaw muscle massage, pregnancy massage, and postnatal massage.
Each massage session is tailored according to the client’s wishes. The techniques used are adapted to serve the client in the best possible way. Massage can be used simply for relaxation, but it may also help with issues such as headaches, pain, or muscle tension. Our massage therapists are healthcare professionals.
Who is a qualified massage therapist?
A qualified massage therapist has completed an official massage therapy qualification. In Finland, “qualified massage therapist” is a protected professional title, and permission to use it must be obtained from Valvira. All massage therapists at SUHK are qualified professionals listed in Terhikki, the public register of healthcare professionals. They are also subject to healthcare documentation requirements, and all treatment notes, such as care plans, are available for clients to view through Omakanta.
In addition to massage therapy training, our therapists also have other professional qualifications. Alongside massage therapists, SUHK also employs skilled physiotherapists and osteopaths. Our professionals continuously further their education in order to provide more comprehensive care for clients. We make use of multidisciplinary expertise, and our massage therapists may recommend other services when needed, such as physiotherapy, osteopathy, or a doctor’s appointment.
Which type of massage is right for me?
Massage is a holistic form of treatment that primarily supports physical well-being, but its benefits also extend to mental well-being. Some of the benefits include reduced stress and improved sleep quality. Many physical issues, such as pain or muscle tension, can also affect mental well-being, and treating them through massage may help prevent additional problems.
You can book a massage even without a specific reason. Depending on the client’s needs, massage may be used for relaxation, prevention, recovery, or therapeutic care. Most commonly, people seek massage treatment for muscle tension. For example, neck and shoulder pain is a very common issue that we treat daily at our clinic.
Jaw muscle massage is something everyone should try at least once. It is especially beneficial for people suffering from bruxism, or nighttime teeth grinding. Pregnancy massage, as the name suggests, is designed for pregnant women and mothers who have recently given birth. Its purpose is to relieve discomfort related to bodily changes and support recovery after childbirth. We also offer baby massage, which can help with many everyday infant challenges, such as excessive crying caused by muscle tension.
